DR Ecovillage Common House

A cutting-edge, sustainable, new, community building for a Missouri based intentional community and non-profit.

The project’s complex brief – including social and teaching spaces, kitchen and dining facilities, and offices – is arranged within a simple, local vernacular, barn form.

The project aims for LEED Platinum, Living Building Challenge, and Passive House certification, through a range of ecological features including: net zero energy (through on-site PV panels); high energy efficiency through passive solar, natural ventilation, airtightness, super insulation, MVHR, and GSHPs; rain water harvesting for 100% of its water use; elimination of toxic chemicals; use of salvaged materials; and open-source release of project information.

Role: Architect and community facilitator (managed contract with selfbuild elements).
